Michael DeYoung To Conduct ‘Adventure in the Landscape’ Photography Workshop at Taos Ski Valley Taos, New Mexico.

Noted adventure, landscape, and lifestyle photographer Michael DeYoung will be giving a 5-day photography workshop focusing on incorporating the human element — athletes and adventurers — into the dramatic mountain, canyon and river landscapes of Taos and Taos Ski Valley.
Participants will learn creative composition, lighting, action, art direction, and design techniques to create compelling images that convey a strong sense of place, emotion or action. Tuition for the workshop is $1,085 and includes all instruction, critique sessions, on-location photo sessions, and all model and location fees. Workshop attendees are responsible for their own travel arrangements including air and hotel. Special hotel rates have been made with the Edelweiss Lodge.
Michael DeYoung is a well-published adventure, landscape, and lifestyle photographer. He was named “Master of Outdoor Lifestyle” Photographer by Digital Photo Pro and won first place in Photo District News’ 2011 Great Outdoors Photography Contest in the Parks & Safaris category.
Michael creates images for advertising, corporate, and editorial clients and his work appears regularly in a variety of publications, calendars, cards, catalogs, brochures, corporate websites and many other places.
He has created work for several vacation destination guides including the Alaska State Vacation Planner, Anchorage Visitor’s Guide, Seward Visitor’s Guide, Taos Visitor’s Guide, Taos Ski Valley Chamber of Commerce Visitor’s Guide, and was recently hired to shoot an outdoor recreation
print ad campaign for South Carolina Parks, Recreation, and Tourism. Also an accomplished workshop instructor, DeYoung passionately teaches and shares his knowledge of landscape and lifestyle photography. He has taught workshops independently in Alaska over a decade and is scheduled to teach an Alaska Adventure workshop for the Rocky Mountain School of Photography based in Missoula, Montana.
“These workshops are a lot of fun,” says DeYoung. “I love sharing my passion for photography, adventure and the outdoors and, as a teacher, it’s incredibly rewarding to see people’s photography skills improve so much in just a few days. Some of my past participants have seen success
in securing stock photo agency representation, selling their fine art images and having their work published in national publications.”
Michael DeYoung Photography is based out of Taos, New Mexico and Eagle River, Alaska.

Taos Ski Valley, NM   The Blonde Bear Tavern, located within The Edelweiss Lodge and Spa, announces its grand opening Thursday, December 15th.

Jon Mudder, spending his first season in Taos Ski Valley, is introducing the restaurant’s new menu.  Jon hails from the critically acclaimed BELLAVITAE in New York’s Greenwich Village, where he was Executive Chef and owner.  Joining Jon are Chefs Sophia Vigil and Josh Tate.  Rounding out the team is Wine Manager and Mixologist Rushan Perera.

“Skiing originated in Europe and was refined in world-famous resorts throughout the Alps,” says Jon.  “Our menu gives you a taste of classic dishes from those regions interpreted through the casual laid-back attitude for which Taos Ski Valley is known.”

“We call it ‘Alpine Comfort Food,’” he adds.  “The flavors are very familiar to the American palate, but the origins – like those of Taos Ski Valley – are European.  We add some American classic dishes too.  When designing the menu, I asked myself, ‘After skiing one of the world’s famously challenging mountains, what would I want to eat?’”

The restaurant’s from-scratch menu uses ingredients sourced locally in New Mexico whenever possible, with an emphasis on organic producers.

The Tavern’s wine list was carefully crafted to pair well with the new menu, featuring wines from France, Italy, Austria, and the United States.

Jon Mudder earned a BS in Finance from Arizona State University and an MBA from Columbia University.  He enjoyed a successful career on Wall Street before opening BELLAVITAE in 2004.  Jon blogs at www.bellavitae.com and will expand his food and wine focus to include the Taos Ski Valley lifestyle.

The Edelweiss Lodge and Spa.  For over 40 years, the original Edelweiss Hotel was a fixture at the heart of Taos Ski Valley.  Recently recreated in the same location, the new Edelweiss Lodge and Spa combines a warm friendly atmosphere with a new level of comfort and a renewed commitment to first-class service – making it truly “the peak of luxury in Taos Ski Valley”.  The property offers guests the ultimate ski-in / ski-out facility with an ideal location in the heart of the Taos Ski Valley base area, just meters from the lifts.  www.edelweisslodgeandspa.com

Taos Ski Valley.   Located within the Sangre de Cristo Mountains of the southern Rockies, Taos Ski Valley combines the founders’ Swiss/French/Austrian roots with the rich heritage of the area’s Native Americans.  The result is a magical setting where extreme skiers, nature lovers, creative artists, haute cuisine, and native peoples live in harmony.  Known for its dramatic peaks, black diamond steeps and deeps, remote chutes and long blue/green cruisers, Taos Ski Valley is rapidly gaining a reputation as the ultimate ski and snowboarding destination in North America.  www.skitaos.org
